[Update] Added one event at the bottom of this post.
The new character, Phantom, has been released! Phantom is the Thief Hero, being the fourth Hero who fought the Black Mage. To ”celebrate” the Renegades updates, a new world has opened: Renegades. There are also some new events which have started, along with ongoing events that started during the last update. Please read on!
Weirdly enough, no world selection screen was added..
Phantom, the Thief Hero, is a new character in MapleStory. Phantom is one of the five heroes who have fought the Black Mage. Before I’m going to ”list” all the details, I’ll put Phantom’s story down here. Quote by Nexon:
Hundreds of years ago, Phantom gained fame and fortune by stealing precious treasures from the wealthy. He intentionally left clues at every crime scene so all of his targets would know it was he, the master thief, who had made off with their valuables. Though many tried, no one ever learned his true identity, and many began to believe he was something more than human. He was dubbed “Phantom” by the people.
When attempting to steal the Skaia, a precious jewel rumored to be connected to the power of Empress Aria of Ereve, Phantom ended up falling hopelessly in love with the Empress. The two developed a burgeoning friendship that became more romantic by the day. Instead of attempting to steal the Skaia again, Phantom decided to simply ask Aria for it. Although she found this amusing, she always declined.
Before their romance could deepen, Aria was tricked and killed by an envoy of the Black Mage led by the sinister General Orchid. Devastated by Aria’s death, Phantom offered his help to Freud the Dragon Master, and joined forces with a group of heroes to strike back at the Black Mage. The Five Legendary Heroes were eventually able to defeat the Black Mage and seal him away. Phantom had played his part in protecting the world that Aria had once believed in.
But his victory was not without great sacrifice. Cursed by the Black Mage while sealing him away, Phantom was encased in magical ice for hundreds of years. Eventually, the magic weakened, and Phantom broke free. After hearing rumors that Hilla was the rightful owner of Skaia and heir to the throne, Phantom rushed to Ereve. He stunned the onlookers by proving that Empress Cygnus was the rightful Heir to Empress Aria’s throne and Hilla had deceived them all. Hilla had no choice but to flee, and Phantom has since returned to his personal airship, the Lumiere, to build his strength in preparation for the fight against forces that seek to revive the Black Mage and plunge the world into another age of terror and chaos.
Phantom uses unique weapons. As primary weapon, he uses a Cane and as secondary weapon, he uses Cards. These cards are used/added in your Card Deck with some skills. More about cards, Card Decks and other systems later in this post. Phantom’s main stat is LUK, which is needed for damage and equipment. Next to LUK, Phantom also needs some DEX, which is needed for equipment as well.
In order to create a Phantom character, we use the main routine. First click the ”Create Character” button.
Now, as you can see, Phantom’s button is unlocked! Click it.
The character creation of the Phantom happens on his ship, called the Lumiere.
Pretend this to be the screen where you can choose between Male/Female.
The customization is limited, but at least you can choose between two hair styles, two eyes and 8 different hair colours!
After you created your Phantom, just click start, and your life as a Phantom can begin!
When you first play your Phantom, you’ll see a video about Phantom’s memories. After that, you’re in your ship, the Lumiere, readying your infiltration in Ereve. Arrived in Ereve, you’ll have to sneak past some guards, and when you did that, there’s a conference. A new video will begin. I don’t know if you can skip those videos. I didn’t try it. Anyways, after the video, you’re back at the Lumiere, and you’ve leveled up to level 10 straight away. This is actually the whole tutorial. I’ve recorded this all for you guys. When I’m done editing everything, I’ll upload it.
Like I said before, twice, Phantoms have an airship, called the Lumiere. From the Lumiere, Phantom can access almost all continents in the Maple World. Since the ship is quite important in your storyline, you’ll be spending some time in it. I thought it’d be worth to take some pictures of the Lumiere.
Map of the
Cristal Garden LUMIERE.
Pilothouse – From here you can travel to other continents.
Intelligence Deck – Not much is going on here. NPCs are involved in some quests.
Waist Deck – From here you can access all other rooms in the Lumiere. Also, here’s a merchant, as well as a butler!
Forecastle – Just a nice room.
Training Deck Entrance – This room is actually only used until level 18. Through the two portals you can see above, you can fight against weak monsters.
Hold – Simply the Storage Room. You can also access your storage in here.
Phantom can steal skills from other Explorers! Yeah, just Explorers, also no Cannoneers or Dual Bladers. Before you are able to actually use the skill, you’ll have to steal it first, of course.
Do this by clicking the skill Skill Swipe.
You will now see a crosshair which you can move by moving your mouse. Aim it on an Explorer character and click the left-mouse button! This will open of the Skill window of the selected character.
Now that you have stolen the skill, you can view it with the Loadout Skill.
As you can see, I only have one stolen skill right now. You can steal up to four first job skills, four second job skills, three third job skills and two fourth job skills. Anyways, you can use one skill of each job at a time, so I guess up to four skills can be active when you are level 120+.
Phantoms also use an exclusive system: the Card Deck! With this Card Deck you can gain a random buff buff for 30 seconds if you fill it up. It works as follows.
When you do a critical hit, there is a chance one card will be added in your Card Deck, based on the level of the Carte Blanc or Carte Noir skill. You can see the possible buffs right here!
These are the skills of the brand new and amazing Phantom! (Thanks to Hielke (my brother) for listing the skills).

New World: Renegades
A new world has opened: Renegades! Along with this opening, some events have started to ”help” people level faster on it. Two events gives players mesos when they reach level 10 and 30. The other one will give players a Renegades Bandana when they get to level 70:
Renegades Bandana: REQ LV: 70, STR/DEX/INT/LUK +18, Weapon/Magic DEF +180, AVOID +25, Diligence +10; 10 updgrade slots, unhammered. Untradeable
The only event I think which is worth to discuss, is the Phantom Celebration Day event. If you log in during the days July 9 – July 13, you can get a Renegades Gift Box through an icon at the left side of your screen. You can only open the box at July 14. Note: Only one box per account can be given!
This box contains the following
three (Fail, Nexon) two items at a 100% chance:
Raven Persona (Hat)
|STR/DEX/INT/LUK +10, Max HP/MP +200, Weapon/Magic DEF +50, 10 upgrade slots, unhammered
BONUS: When you are 3rd or 4th job as Phantom: DEX/LUK +5, Weapon ATT +5, MaxMP +30%
Comes with hidden potential, which will alway be Epic tier when revealed.
20x Renegades Coin
Allows you to purchase items from the Renegades Shop. Talk to NPC Conor located in most towns.
Also, one of these three items will be in the box:
1x Unidentified Love Letter
Open this letter and receive a random amount of fame from your secret admirer!
1x Pendant of the Spirit (7 days)
Equip it and earn bonus EXP from hunting mobs the longer you’re logged in. 1 hr: 10% extra, 2 hrs: 20% extra, 3+ hrs: 30% extra
1x Advanced Potential Scroll
Use on a regular equip item to add a hidden potential. Can only be used on an equip that has no hidden or revealed potential. Success Rate: 90%.
This really looks like an Hot-Time Event, but this is more like an Hot-Time Day, haha.
That was all for this update!
