GMS v.144 – RED: Zero


[Update]: I have added a video at the Skills section of this post where I show you some of Zero’s skills.

Recently, the new update featuring the new playable character Zero was released, and I finally have time to write a post about it, because of the winter break, yay! Anyway, along with Zero, a new area called Commerci has been added as well. Please read on!

Zero

Zero is the child of Rhinne, the Transcendence of Time. Born from her tears in an attempt to free her powers from the Black Mage, but things would not go as planned as the Black Mage figured out her plan. The child was split in two, Alpha a male and Beta a female, and imprisoned in the Mirror World.

Only with their powers combined will Alpha and Beta be able to break free from Mirror World and ascend to be the next Transcendence of Time.

As Zero, you actually control two characters, Alpha and Beta. Both have their own weapon, Lazuli and Lapis respectively, and their own skills. Zero starts at level 100, and it’s a difficult character to master, so I really don’t recommend new people to play Zero as their first character.

Zero doesn’t use mana, but TF (Time Force), which quickly recovers over time.

Zero has it’s own story line, which takes place in the Mirror World. This is a construct of the Black Mage made with the goddess Rhinne’s power to imprison Zero and control the source of their power. It is only a shard of Maple World, copied but not reproduced. It is an unstable, incomplete shadow.

The Mirror World consists of various mirrored towns of the Maple World with each their own hunting grounds (dungeons) to quest and train in.

While in these dungeons, you can acumulate Weapon Points from killing monsters and completing the dungeon, which you can use to reset your weapons’ potential. Furthermore, Lapis and Lazuli will upgrade every 10 levels up to level 170.

In combat, Zero uses the Tag system. When use the same skills for a long time, you will notice you fight with only Alpha or Beta and the other is on standby.

However, if you use a skill of the character on standby, the team is “tagged” and both Alpha and Beta will be attacking for 3 seconds. After these 3 seconds, you can tag again. This way you will never have to fight alone.

Character Creation

Zero’s character creation/customization is very limited. After you’ve chosen a name (both Alpha and Beta will have the same name), you can only choose whether they have a pale, light, tanned or dark skin. The character creation screen looks very nice though!

Tutorial

Like I do every time, I thought I’d record and upload a video of Zero’s tutorial. The problem, however, is that it took me at least 30 minutes to go through the tutorial and it only recorded half of it due to lack of space on my HDD, so I decided to not upload a video this time.

The whole tutorial has voice acting and there’s a whole new dialogue UI. It’s very awesome in general, so if you haven’t gone through it yourself yet, I really recommend to watch another video of it on YouTube. Zero doesn’t have a First, Second, Third or Fourth Job, since it starts at level 100. Instead, you unlock new skills as you level up. Zero also doesn’t have Hyper Skills, but uses Trandescent Skills that unlock as you level up too.

  • Rhinne’s Blessing: Link Skill : At Master Level: Incoming damage reduced: 15%, Ignore DEF: 10%. Master Level: 5. Strengthen this skill by collecting Goddess Teardrops.
  • Dual Combat : A battle style unique to Alpha and Beta. Master Level: 1
